This Robot Birthday Cake Design is the cake that I made for my son’s 1st birthday. I wanted to make something fun, but didn’t have a lot of time.
I simply made a huge sponge cake in a roasting tin. I used one and a half times Delia Smiths basic Victoria Sponge recipe, which was perfect to fill my tin to the right depth.
Once cooked I cut the sponge into two large and two small squares, which I layered for the body and head. I then cut the remaining cake into rectangles for the legs and arms, I used these in a single layer. I stuck it all together with warmed apricot jam and then covered with blue butter icing. I used licorice all-sorts, red laces and silver balls to decorate.
This cake was really easy and pretty quick to make, which is handy when your little-ones birthday in New Years Day! It took no technical skills, so anyone can do it, and it tasted pretty good too! (The sugar mouse was a gift.. optional extra!!)
I tasted this robot cake, made by Rachael, it was fantastic, and looked very good too.
