My husband and I are aspiring cake decorators and when his cousin said her daughter was having her 9th birthday and was really into animals, this Safari Birthday Cake is what we came up with. The bottom layer was a 10inch strawberry cake, the middle layer was an 9inch vanilla cake, and the hat was and 8 inch and a 6 inch chocolate cake carved into the hat shape.
We filled all the layers with plain vanilla butter cream frosting. Covered by fondant, we cut all the animal prints and sculpted the animals with fondant all by hand. The cake board/grass and the lion’s hair was piped with a grass tip.
Amazing…all I can say is amazing!
question……. where did you get the patterns for the animals???
