For my son, Abe’s fifth birthday he requested a Scooby Doo Cake. After looking at this website, he decided he wanted Shaggy on the cake as well. I decided to try fondant for the first time and was pleased with how easy it was to use.
I downloaded and printed off a circular color image of Scooby and Shaggy and cut it out to use as a template for this Scooby Doo and Shaggy Birthday Cake. I baked a chocolate layer cake and frosted it with chocolate icing. I rolled out the white fondant, cut a circle and placed it on top of the cake. I then divided fondant into Ziploc bags and kneaded paste food coloring into each portion (the hardest part…).
I rolled out each color of fondant between parchment paper and using the cut-out templates cut each shape with a sharp knife. I rolled out the yellow for Scooby’s dog tag. I assembled Scooby & Shaggy on top of the cake and outlined everything with black frosting.
To finish the cake, I let my son add the sugar letters, candy dog bones, sugar balloons and his #5 candle. He had tons of fun helping me decorate his cake and it was a hit with his friends at his party! I will definitely be using fondant for future birthday cakes!
