This Sewing Birthday Cake was my first solo cake. I used a round Wilton cake pan and a boxed cake mix. The frosting under the fondant was store bought (I hadn’t learned how to make my own yet). I used rolled white fondant, also for the first time and found it was fun and easy.
I colored the fondant using Wilton gel coloring and used a food marker for the numbers on the tape measure. Water was used to glue everything on. The blanket was made of thicker fondant pinched together to give a fabric look.
This cake was fun and I lacked all the real fondant tools necessary to make a cake, but it came together well. Anyone with interest should just go ahead and try it!
You did a wonderful job ! I love it!
My mom loves to quilt. I am going to have to try this for her next birthday. I am always decorating cakes, but have never worked with fondant. This has inspired me to give it a try.
