With the release of Shrek 4-Ever After, my 5 year old daughter wanted to have a movie birthday. With 12 friends and their parent(s) I realized that I was going to need a lot of cake. After considering making a “movie” themed birthday cake, I thought about what cake pans I already had and realized I could probably turn a teddy bear into Shrek.
I baked a chocolate pound cake for Shrek and a vanilla pound cake for Fiona. I decided to freeze them to make carving them a little easier. Once frozen, I carved the ears off and a little of the face to make the nose stand out. I used buttercream icing tinted with Wilton food coloring for the entire cake including Fiona’s dress. The ears were made with Double Lollies and covered with icing. I bought a dollar store crown and placed it on top of Fiona’s head.
The Shrek and Fiona Birthday Cakes were a huge hit. Everyone loved them and most even had a piece of each one. After making these, I have had many requests to make other cakes for people’s birthdays.
I love it! Quite an impressive transformation from teddy to Shrek!
I am going to try to make this for my son’s 2nd birthday~I have the teddy bear pan…any pointers on getting the cake out without it falling or breaking? Also, did you just use black gel for eyebrows? You did a wonderful job!!!!
