This year, our grandson is into Skylanders Giants. And fortunately, McDonald’s have just had them in their Happy Meals, so I had four action figures all ready. Let me say right now, I really, really don’t like black frosting LOL! But you’ve gotta do what you’ve gotta do. The cake is a nine inch 2-layer fudge chocolate, set off-center on a large serving platter. I sandwiched the layers and covered the whole cake with a butter cream frosting and refrigerated it overnight, then turned it into a Portal of Power with black/grey microwave marshmallow fondant.
I stamped blocks onto the walls with four small cardboard shapes, and then cut white fondant to make the symbols for the eight pillars. To cover the serving platter, I rolled and flattened irregular “cobblestones” from lighter grey fondant for the front part, and rubbed them with powdered sugar to emphasize the joins; round the back I simply floated some green water icing for grass. Then I positioned my four figures, sticking them down with a little frosting. I piped a number 6 on the cake and grandson’s name on the cobblestones, and finished it off with 6 black and white candles. This turned out really well, and was actually really straightforward (if time-consuming). He loved it!!
