I made this snake birthday cake for a reptile themed birthday party for my twin 5-year old boys. I used two bundt cakes, which I halved and then arranged to create the snake shape.
I trimmed the tail and used the extra triangle of cake to form the head. The snake was piped with the icing tip used to make large dots. I did the colored spots first and then filled in the green all around. The eyes were marshmallows, which I trimmed to shape with scissors and painted with blue and black food coloring. The icing is Swiss butter cream, which takes a lot of whipping to make, but held up nicely.
