I made this Sorcerer’s Apprentice Mickey Mouse Cake for my son’s birthday after a recent visit to Walt Disney World. I saw the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse cakes but didn’t feel inspired to create one. I was brainstorming with my husband, who thought of the Sorcerer’s Apprentice theme (based on a Sorcerer Mickey bouncy ball we had laying around from our trip!)
I baked three cakes and frosted in grey icing and then sprayed Wilton Black mist. The stairs are chocolate graham crackers, which I scrapped with a pin for the wood grain effect. The water fountain is also graham crackers. The buckets are fresh bananas (again hubby’s idea), hollowed out for the blue jell-o (water). I used Wilton brown gel to paint on the rings on the buckets.
We tried to freeze the bananas first but they slime out when thawing. Bucket handles are pretzels. The brooms are pretzels with fruit roll-ups around them, about one inch up so you can stick them in the cake so they stand. I used melted chocolate as “glue” to stick the brooms on the stairs. Mickey figurine is part of a set they sell at WDW.
The cake was hit but I was surprised a few adults had never seen the movie clip so I guess they didn’t quite get the cake!
Love the cake! Great use of edible items like the bananas and jello. I’ll remember that next time I need water,
This is amazing! How did you stack the stairs?
