Coolest Space Shuttle Cake

This Space Shuttle Cake is approx 55cm in length, consisting of 4 premix mud cakes. I used two for the lower half of the shuttle, one and a half for the upper. I fashioned the tail out of a piece of cardboard covered with royal icing. This is the only non edible part of the cake. All painting done with liquid food colouring.

I used a 3d view and line drawings of the space shuttle discovery obtained from the NASA web site. For only my second attempt at creating a themed cake, I am thrilled with the end result. The saddest part was watching the cake being cut into pieces at my boy’s birthday party.
