My son begged and pleaded for a Spiderman cake for his 9th birthday and after trawling Ebay, I finally found a pan to suit his requirements. The cake itself is just a white wings butter cake mix, made to packet directions and cooked to directions. Once turned out, the cake had the impressions in it, to make for easy icing.
The icing is similar to butter cream but is called solite. Solite is an icing mix that looks like white butter and when mixed with 500g of pure icing sugar and 2tbs milk, makes a creamy butter cream type icing. After mixing the icing, I started with they eyes, to make sure I had enough white to do them, then mixed a portion black and another portion dark blue. The remaining icing was divided and colored red and light blue respectively, to ice the suit and background.
The background was piped on using a #16 star tip, as was Spiderman himself. The black outlining was piped on using a #3 plain tip. For a first attempt at Spiderman, I was happy with the result, as was my son and his class, who had it for afternoon tea at school for his birthday.
