My nephew was turning 5 and I always make his birthday cakes for him. This year the theme was “Spongebob”so I made him this Spongebob Birthday Cake. I always freehand a drawing of the cake first and cut it out to shape.
I baked 2 9X13 inch white cakes, I myself make homemade cakes but you can always use 2 cake mixes. Let them cool. After cooling, I stuck them in the fridge to set up. It’s easier to get the crumbs off if you do this.
I put both cakes together on a cake board and placed the design I drew where I wanted it to bed. Toothpicks inserted around the design keep the design in place.
I used homemade buttercream icing with blue food coloring for a basecoat to frost around the design and the edges. From there I used various colors to make Spongebob with decorating icing colors and buttercream. I then lined the design in black.
I ended the design by going over the iced area around Spongebob in white buttercream with a star tip and blue at the base of the cake. It was a huge hit again!
