My nephew wanted a Sponge Bob cake for his 3rd birthday. I’m new to making cakes and wasn’t sure how to go about it. I searched for a Homemade Spongebob Birthday Cake Idea and decided to just frost the image on a half sheet cake instead of trying to make a shaped cake.
I bought a half sheet cake pan and used four boxes of cake mix to fill it. I had buttered and floured the pan first and it came out so nice that I didn’t need a crumb coat of frosting. I then drew a picture of Sponge bob on a piece of paper the size of my finished cake. I cut him out to use as a template and used food safe markers to transfer the drawing on the cake. I used those guidelines to frost. I used four tubs of frosting tinted the appropriate colors.
I finished out the whole cake with gel writers to give the edges a more finished look. I’m definitely not taking up cake frosting but I was happy with the finished product. I wouldn’t have known where to start without this site. Hopefully my cake can help out someone else with there cake project.
