I used a 9 x 13 pan for the base of this Spongebob Birthday Cake Idea. A 9×13 cut into thirds and layered, for the middle, and a 4″ round for the top. The cake is made from “boxed” confetti cake mix. I always add 1 box of instant pudding per box of cake mix to make it moist. The icing is a buttercream. (4 cups sifted confec. sugar, 1/2 cup shortening, 1 tsp vanilla flav., 2 tbls milk, blended for 5 minutes).
I used a toothpick to drawn on the “houses” and filled them in with icing. The “sand” is crushed graham crackers. My characters are printed from computer double sided glued together with a toothpick in the middle to hold it up. My son loves Spongebob. I wanted to include all his favorite characters, the island on top, the ocean, and the ground so overall I was pretty proud of the finished product. The best part was my son’s face and him saying in his sweet voice “Thank you mommmy, I love it”.
I love your cake. It is such a great design and it looks like a professional made it. You should be very proud of yourself.
Thank you Erica! I am very proud. It turned out better than I expected . :) I actually got a request the next week to make the same cake for someone else.
