I baked two, two layer tiers to build this Spongebob cake. The cake flavor is French vanilla. I frosted the cake with butter cream frosting. Remember to make sure that you level the layers of cake before stacking them, or your tiers will be crooked, or even slide off of the cake board.
I covered the bottom cake board in blue foil, to match the bottom tier which was to be frosted in blue butter cream to look like water. I added extra milk to my butter cream recipe, so that the icing would spread smoothly. Then, I drew and filled in both Spongebob’s and Squidward’s homes using a writing tip.
Next, I drew tropical flowers in orange, pink, and purple all around the bottom tier. Next, I drew pink jelly fish scattered here and there. I bought some sugar starfish and sea horses that added a finishing touch to the tier. The top tier was easier for me, as I had made one before when making a 1st Birthday cake for a girl I knew. I covered the whole tier in yellow butter cream, and then drew Spongebob’s features with black butter cream.
I used a lot of white butter cream and the wide writing tip to build up Spongebob’s bubbly eyes. I used blue from the bottom tier to make his irises, and pink from the jelly fish on the bottom tier to fill in his tongue. At the end, I combined three of the left over butter cream colors to make a greenish brown color that was used to fill in Spongebob’s sponge holes.
When the cake was finished, I piped a decorative yellow border using a star-tip.
