This Homemade Spongebob Cake was made for a 40 year old adult who loved SpongeBob!
I made 2 French Vanilla flavored sheet cakes, each 13 x 9, then cut them in half lengthwise. I then stacked them on top of each other, with buttercream frosting beween each layer. I cut the sides sloping at a slight angle, and used that left over cake for the uneven top. I inserted dowel rods at several junctures to keep the cake stable. I then froze the whole thing for easier decorating.
I created the arms, legs and nose by wrapping fondant around flex straws. I gave them, along with the shoes and pants legs, a few days to harden. I then made the eyes, pants, and shirt, also out of fondant, just before I began frosting the cake, using a star tip to fill in.
A banner was used since I couldn’t add text to the cake. Worked with Cliksticks for the beautiful penmanship .The birthday boy was overjoyed!
