I first started this Star Wars: Return of the Jedi “The Great Pit of Carkoon” Cake with baking a half-sheet cake, plus an extra 9×13 cake to use for building. I cut it in half, hollowed out a pit, and built the hill with the surrounding cake. I covered everything in butter cream, and then coated it with finely ground Graham cracker crumbs (pulsed with a food processor.)
For Sarlacc, I tinted fondant to be beige and then rolled out the tentacles. The landspeeder ship was built by using Graham crackers, pretzels and molding chocolate to keep it together. Action figures completed the scene. My nephew loved the cake!
