This Steak Cake was made for a Georgia Cattlemen’s Meeting a few weeks ago. This was my first attempt decorating any cake, other than your standard sheet cake.
I used store bought Devil’s Food Cake and Red Velvet cake. I baked both cakes in a 9 x 13 pan. I divided the devil’s food and put the red velvet between the two halves. (Steak was “medium rare” when sliced.) I cut the cake to a steak shape. I used colored homemade butter cream icing between the layers and on the crumb layer.
I colored white fondant brown, saving out enough white to make the bone, fat, and marbling. I mixed a little of the brownish butter cream icing with water and brushed it over the bone and fat to make the white less stark. I mixed black Wilton icing coloring with a little water and dipped a thin rope in the mixture. I used that make the grill marks.
anyone can buy a cake pan and follow directions for a specialty cake. Your ingenuity is wonderful. Maybe you should open a store.
I love it (even though you lost me with “medium rare”)! Great job!
I can’t believe what a FANTASTIC job you done with this cake. Who would have ever thought to make a steak cake let alone one that is medium rare. I applaud you for your ingenious idea. Great Job.
Wow! You did a really good job. Made it sound really easy to make. I’ll have to give it a try.
