I made this Storybook Castle Cake for my daughter’s 1st birthday which was a princess theme.
I used the open book Wilton cake pan to make the cake. I covered the cake in buttercream icing except for the very top which I used a sheet of fondant. The “story” was written on the fondant with food writer markers, and the flowers were made with fondant as well. The vines and leaves I made with buttercream.
The castle was made with rice cereal treats that I covered in fondant and then dusted with edible pearl dust. The turrets on the top of the castle towers were made from ice cream cones I cut down covered with candy melts and then dipped in sprinkles. The flowers, windows and door were made from fondant. I painted the wood look on the door with watered down brown food coloring and a small brush.
This cake was a lot of fun to make but also very time consuming. It was all worth it when I saw how much everyone loved it at her party, even her!
Love how you made the castle on top of the storybook! Simply gorgeous and creative idea!
