This was a Straw Hat cake for my niece’s birthday (which falls near Easter.) She had no special requests, so I just did one that I wanted to try. This is a 9 inch round topped with half a ball pan cake. I used brown butter cream in a basket weave pattern.
I had never done a basket weave before and found that it wasn’t that hard and actually very forgiving (it didn’t have to be very precise to look good).
The sunflower is done with chocolate icing piped in dots on a Carr’s wheat cracker, place on the cake and them surrounded by yellow petals done with a leaf tip. I added small white flowers with a flower tip and a band of frosting around to look like a ribbon.
It was fairly simple to do and turned out really cute.
