I made this Strawberry Shortcake cake for my granddaughter’s 4th birthday party. I hired a Wilton’s Strawberry Shortcake (new design) cake tin, bought a packet of cake mix, icing sugar and white margarine. Then I just followed the different instructions.
I used butter icing in different colors using gel food coloring and I iced the cake with different star tips. I didn’t like the bright red color for the hair and eyes and used Burgundy food coloring for the hair and made the eyes green. I also used the same color icing for outlining the different parts. I used a little bit of Orange food coloring for the face and arms.
I first used different icings from a tube for the smaller parts but the colors became darker after a while. The green stripes on the shirt and band nearly looked black and the white stripes looked grey; even the red strawberry and lips became a blackish red. At the end I scratched all the tube icing off and colored my own butter icing and piped it on the cake. There was a huge difference and the cake looked much better!
I used powder food coloring for the black and red icing. At last I put the birthday candles in jelly strawberry lollies and also put a few more around the candles at the bottom of the cake. My granddaughter was very proud of her birthday cake and she thought it was beautiful.
I agree. The burgundy hair looks beautiful.
You used the Wilton’s cake tin new design for Strawberry Shortcake, but is allready outdated. For the newest design you have to work from pictures.
