I surprised our son by baking him this Homemade Super Mario Birthday Cake, it took me two days to put it together and bake all the layers. We brought it to Chuck E Cheese for his birthday party and four strangers walked up to me asking me where I “bought” it! LOL I told them – yeah, right – I made it.
The entire cake is homemade, from scratch – I used a dozen eggs and it felt like it weighed 20 pounds~! I even made the fondant from scratch from 2 bags of melted mini marshmallows some vanilla and lots of powdered sugar (about 3 pounds!)
I layered the cake and made homemade buttercream frosting to get the fondant to stick to the cake. The top tier is two layers of strawberry flavored cake (I put jelly and food coloring in the batter), and the bottom tier is chocolate, two layers with white buttercream frosting.
I used many colors of fondant, added all the background and details by hand then added the characters which I found on eBay and the tins were all from blockbuster, including the mushroom on top.
this cake is amazing now my son wants one for his 10th birthday!! do u live near Florida? lol
