This Sweet Dreams Baby Cake was made for a baby shower. I baked three cakes 10″, 8″ and 6″. I frosted them in butter cream then covered each layer with Fondant. In each layer I had 4 dowels to hold the weight of the cake and I had a large dowel hammered right down the center of the cake.
About 3 days before the shower I cut the stars and moons out of a 50/50 Gum Paste and fondant mixture. I made the baby and blanket out of the same mixture. I laid them out to harden on wax paper. For the big moon and stars I used very thin dowels to attach them with a strip of the fondant/gum paste mixture laid over the dowels.
The night before the shower I used my tiny circle cutter and then cut them in half to make the balls around each layer. It was very time consuming, but well worth it for my sister-in-law and my niece!
