We just got a swimming pool, so I decided to try the jello pool cake for a 12th birthday party. This swimming pool cake was a huge hit! This is the first time I have ever attempted to make a cake like this, so it’s a little messy.
But, I really had a great time picking out the decorations for the diving board, floats, etc. and an even better time making the cake. I used a white cake mix and fluffy white icing. I baked the cake on a Friday afternoon, let the jello set a little, poured it in, put on a thick layer of icing and left it in the fridge overnight.
Saturday morning all I had left to do was decorate! I used Fruit Stripe gum for the chairs and diving board, gummy life savers and peach rings for floats, gummy bears and teddy grahams for the people, caramel wafers for the sides to look like decking, sour tart sticks that I cut in pieces for the beach towel and pathway, drink umbrellas and I put the candles on there to be our “tiki torches”.
Be careful not to put your torches close to the umbrellas – they will catch on fire.
