We were asked to make a Homemade Tangled Birthday Cake and thought it would be great idea to have her hair wrap around the outside of the cake! We made a 10″ cake, torted and filled it, and covered the entire cake with a crumb coat. We printed a coloring picture off the internet, which we traced over the outlines to make them darker, then traced the picture onto rice paper. The same picture is used on party paper plates, so we were able to get the colors from there.
We also found a purple background with squiggly designs. Using buttercream, we frosted just the top of the cake with the purple background and did the designs free hand. We piped in her facial features, hands and part of her dress using a Wilton tip 2, which we later smoothed out the lines with a decorating paint brush. The rest of her dress we used a Wilton 14 star tip.
For her hair, we used a Wilton tip 234. For her hair color, we striped the bag first with different yellows to kind of give it a streaked look. We started at her hairline and then just kept wrapping the hair around the entire outside of the cake. We added some royal icing flowers. They loved how the hair wrapped!
It was a big hit!
My daughter loves the Tangled movie, and she wanted a cake that showed her really long hair. This is the perfect idea for that. Thank you so much for sharing. This is a really pretty cake.
