My granddaughter, Trinity, absolutely loves the movie Tangled. So I decided to make her a Homemade Tangled Birthday Cake for her 3rd birthday. It’s a 2 tier chocolate and French vanilla cake.
I used boxed cake mix. The top tier is two 8 in. rounds and the bottom tier is two 10 in. rounds. I crumb coated the cakes with a thin layer of homemade butter cream icing before I covered them with fondant. I inserted a sturdy straw in the middle of the cakes to keep the tiers together.
I made and colored the fondant myself. Trinity’s name, the flowers and the sun were hand cut from fondant. They were attached to the cake by using vanilla extract rubbed on the backs of the cutouts. The vanilla acts as an edible glue. The “water” on top was made from homemade butter cream frosting and colored blue with food color.
The borders are rolled balls of fondant and the Tangled figures on top were bought from a local department store.
I was so happy with how this cake turned out and I can’t wait to see the look on Trinity’s face when she sees her Tangled cake!
