I made this Teapot Cake for my daughter’s birthday. I started by molding a spout and handle from flower paste which I had colored pink, then inserted cocktail sticks to make it easier to attach to the cake. This needs to dry hard so I made it the day before.
I made two domed Madeira cakes. When they were baked I leveled them off and sandwiched them together using jam and butter cream, making a ball shaped cake. I then flattened off the bottom to make the cake more stable. I cut the cake through and filled with jam and butter cream two more times so the cake was not dry. Using the offcuts I made a lid for the teapot, again using butter cream to stick it together.
I colored my icing pink matching the shade to the spout and handle. After covering the cake in butter cream I covered with two layers of icing. I crimped the edge of the lid and made a pea sized ball to fit on the lid. Finally I decorated with white chocolate buttons.
My daughter and her friends loved it. It was almost a shame to cut it, but it did taste good.
