My great nephew decided ages ago that he wanted a Thomas The Tank Engine 3rd Birthday cake which almost turned into a Ben 10 cake but then he changed his mind back again! Kids eh? I modelled Thomas from gum paste in separate pieces to form the shape of the engine. I wish now that I had molded all the blue parts of the engine from one piece but you live an learn at this game! There are so many different parts on Thomas that it is a very time consuming model to make so I hope Dylan likes the finished article.
The cake is a 10″ vanilla sponge cake filled with vanilla butter cream and strawberry preserve, coated with vanilla fondant and the accents on the cake are also vanilla fondant.
I love your Thomas engine. It came out beautifully. It looks like you have used fondant before and your expertise shows. It is nice and smooth on the cake and your modeling job is very professional! Great job I am sure he was thrilled with this cake
Thank you for your lovely comments. I have been icing and modelling cakes for just over a year and it has taken many fondant recipes to finally come up with one that works.
