I made this Thomas the Tank Engine Birthday Cake in January for my son’s 2nd birthday. He loves Thomas the Tank Engine. I used 2 13×9 cake pans to make the base of the cake. One went horizontally and the other vertically. I also used a round cake pan for the face. I carved the 13×9 cakes and used the “extra cake” to make the smoke stack and other 3d effects.
I used 2 pieces of “Santa’s coal” candy for what I gather are the lights at the top of Thomas and 2 HUGE peppermint patties for the lights at the bottom. I used Betty Crocker canned icing with the star tip to decorate the cake. I dyed white frosting grey for Thomas’ face and used black icing to do the details.
Everyone loved it and I think that it came out great. This is not the best photo but I can not seem to upload another.
