I made this Thomas The Tank Engine Cake for my son’s 2nd birthday because he is a complete Thomas the Tank Engine fanatic. I was inspired by other Thomas cakes on this site.
I used a white cake made in a 10×17 inch pan cut into 3rds and stacked. I sculpted the shape with a knife. I covered the cake using packaged Wilton Fondant. I colored the blue and black myself and used pre-colored fondant for the red and yellow.
Thomas’ face was sculpted out of white fondant tinted grey and placed on a lollipop stick (I have to give my husband some credit for the face).
This is the first time I’d done a 3D cake or worked with fondant. I think it turned out pretty well. My son loved it and that’s what’s most important!
