I made this Homemade Tiana 1st Birthday Cake for my daughter’s 1st birthday party, and I got the idea from my grandmother and the cakes she used to make for me. I remember the wonder of recieving a beautiful doll cake, and its an important tradition to keep up with my girls.
I just used a regular round cake pan, and cooked two of them. I relize now that they had “doll picks” or little doll half-bodies that make the process easier, but at the time I just used a whole doll. I used butter cream frosting, a frosting spatula, and a decorating bag to pipe on the frosting. I added sparkles of sugar of different colors on top of the designs, and also piped on the frosting by hand for the top part of her dress.
I now realize better techniques for doll cakes, but I do love this cake, and I look forward to doing more.
