We made this tiger cake for my son’s 2nd birthday using the Wilton 3-D Loveable Animal pan, #502-135 (also sometimes called the Lion King or Simba pan). This is an old pan, and I had the pan, but no pictures of how to decorate a cake with this pan.
I looked up pictures of tigers on the internet, and gave it my best shot, using black, white and orange icing. I did the black icing first to make the stripes, then filled in the rest of the body with orange. They eyes are filled in with green Wilton sparkle gel.
This is an older stand-up pan (from the ’70’s), and it doesn’t have a baking cone you can insert in the bottom. So the cake was somewhat narrow for a stand-up, and I was concerned about the stability of the tiger’s head. So I inserted a bamboo skewer from the top of the tiger’s head down to the bottom, then covered the hole with icing, to make sure the tiger’s head didn’t fall off.
That is so very, very cute! And amazing!
