This Tiger Striped and Pink birthday cake was for my 8 year old niece, Libby! I have 2 boys so I always have fun making her birthday cakes because then I can have some “girly” fun! The cake was white cake with white frosting inside and there were 3 layers of cake on each tier.
I covered the bottom tier with white fondant and black “tiger” stripes which I cut using a pizza cutter. The second layer is covered in pink fondant and the top layer is like the 1st with white fondant and black tiger nose, mouth and whiskers. The white and pink beads between the layers are butter cream frosting piped without a tip and around the bottom layer is a pink tiger “tail” made of fondant.
The cake topper is a black flower headband just placed on top of the cake and the hearts and stars are made from fondant. I used small cookie cutters to cut them, frosted between the shapes to “sandwich” them together with a long skinny Popsicle stick and then the edges I dipped in silver sugar crystals.
Final touches on the cake were hot pink ribbon spirals tucked into the cake with toothpicks and some pretty silver candles. The whole cake from start to finish took me 2 days to complete.
My niece’s reaction to her cake was what made all my work worth-while! She loved it and it was the hit of her party!
