This Tinkerbell cake is the cake I made for my daughter as part of my cake decorating class. First I iced it with royal icing, giving it 4-5 coats, smoothing each one with a straight edge and metal rule. This technique is in the Mary Ford cake books.
Next I produced Tinkerbell using the run out technique which I attached to the top of the cake. Runouts are a great way of getting designs and characters on cakes and I found it easy enough to do even though I am not at all artistic. If I can do it you can too.
I hand piped her name and the piped shells around the base and barrel scrolls on the top which I over piped in purple. I was going to try c scrolls but just could not not get them right.
Finishing touches were a white ribbon with silver edging round the base and thicker white ribbon with bow. She loved it and I think it came out pretty well. Hope you agree.
