My husband and I worked together on this Toy Story Birthday Cake Design for our son’s 3rd birthday. Our son loves Toy Story and after searching for a Woody cake pan with no luck we decided to do Andy’s room. We made 2 9×13 cakes and 1 loaf pan cake (all cut down to square up).
The icing is butter cream and we purchased the rolled fondant in white and added our own coloring to it (using latex or similar gloves makes working with the fondant much easier) for the bedspread, rug, ball (Areo ball), happy birthday and 3. The toys were purchased in a set that came with a book purchased at Costco(cheaper then purchasing a set at a toy store). We found a buzz candle at our local Bulk Barn and also used crayon candles to complete the theme.
The pillow on the bed is made out of rice crispy squares squished down and covered with fondant as are the blocks with our sons name on them. For the bed we wanted it completely edible so we used Hershey chocolate bars for the panels, Twix bars for the posts and Areo balls for the top of the posts, and Pretzels which we dipped in chocolate for the spindles. Then we painted on melted chocolate to give the whole bed a real wood look.
This cake was so much fun to make but very time consuming (a full day) but well worth it all!
Thanks for sharing your cake. I love the short cuts you used with the candy. I may have to try and copy a few of your ideas. Many Thanks!
What did you use for the above the spindles on the bed…I see the Hershey bars and twix but I want to make this cake and wanted to know what was above the pretzels and how you got the whole bed to stay together… thanks in advance
How can i order a birthday cake from you?
Thank you for the wonderful comments we had so much fun with this cake. The top part over the pretzel spindles is the chocolate bar. We used a knife and cut the shape (very carefully or it will crack). To stick it all together i flipped it face down and used melted chocolate. We are flattered at the interest in ordering a cake from us, but at this time we are only doing them for our children.
