I got the ideas for this Train Birthday Cake from several of the other train cakes on this site. Thanks for all of the helpful info! For the tracks I used black Twizzlers and Chocolate wafer cookies and filled in around them with graham cracker crumbs for dirt. The grass is coconut died green.
I used 3 cake mixes in total; one baked bean can, 1 large loaf pan and two medium loaf pans. I took the large loaf pan and cut a point in the front for the cattle catcher. I stacked an extra piece of cake behind engine for the cab. The other cars are half a medium loaf pan topped with candies. I used the Pirouette cookies for logs, M & M’s and Tootsie Rolls for coal.
This was my very first cake to make and I am very happy with the way it turned out. It did take about 6 hours to assemble (not including cooking or making the frosting) but it was well worth it!
Love the cake. How did you get the cake out of the baked bean can after it baked? thanks.
