Cool Homemade Train in a Snow Scene Cake

My four year old son asked for a cake featuring a train driving over a big bridge with a shark jumping out at it! I wasn’t sure that was all possible, but then I found the “No Bake Train Cake” pattern on line and I was set. This Train Cake Design was SUPER easy!

I made the train engine and cars out of Swiss Rolls and Devil Squares (Little Debbie pre-packaged cakes). I “glued” the cakes together with royal icing, but you could use toothpicks too! I added mini Oreos for wheels and Rolos for the smoke stacks. I “glued” mini marshmallows together for smoke. Each car is connected by black licorice. I also used black licorice for rail tracks. Each train car can be decorated however you wish. I used black licorice for coal and teddy grahams for an animal car.

I placed the train on a 9×13 cake iced white. I cut out a riverbed and added whisked blue jello for water. I bought a dollar store plastic shark to put in the water (you could use a candy one as well).

The bridge was constructed out of graham crackers and pretzels. I used pretzel sticks for winter trees and finished off with a sprinkling of icing sugar for fresh snow. The most exciting part, according to my son, was that I took his picture with an engineer hat on and added it to the engine. It looks as if he is driving the train!

The cake was a big hit and was super easy to make!
