Coolest Treasure Chest Cake

For our Treasure Chest cake we started out with a cake baked in a small bread/loaf pan and cut it in half diagonally through the center from the top corner down the opposite bottom corner. We then re-matched up the cake putting the small ends together and the large ends together to get the half buried treasured/lop-sided look.

Next we started just slicing and dicing a regular round cake, cutting away pieces at a slant here and adding pieces there to make the sloped island uneven and jagged. We frosted it all with white frosting and then sprinkled it with graham cracker crumbs and cinnamon sugar to give it the sand effect.

The treasure chest is frosted with chocolate frosting and the straps, buckle, handles on the sides and skull and crossbones on the top were done with homemade fondant as well as the starfish and fish bones laying on the island which we made using up the leftover fondant. The straps and handles were then sprayed with silver icing spray.

We accessorized with chocolate coins, necklaces and ring pops and topped it off with 4 pirate candles for his 4th birthday.

  1. This is one of the most ingenious ideas for a home made cake, especially for a pirate fan such as my grandson. There is a lot of love and thought put into this cake. Congratulations!
