For my son’s 4th birthday, he wanted a pirate cake. I looked on a website for pre-schoolers and found this treasure chest, but I changed some things that went on it and in it.
Ingredients:
chocolate cake mix
13×9 pan
large cutting board
chocolate icing
chocolate M&Ms
strawberry Fruit by the Foot
candy necklaces and bracelets
ring pops
plastic coins
Directions:
Take your favorite chocolate cake recipe and I used a 13×9 square pan. Bake the cake according to either the box or by your favorite recipe. When the cake comes out of the oven, cool it on the cutting board.
When the cake is cooled down, cut a 2 inch section out in the middle of the cake. Cut the section to form two triangular wedges.
Frost one of the larger sections with chocolate icing. Place the two triangular wedges on top of the frosted section with the triangles facing the same direction. Frost the triangles.
Place 2-3 ring pops on top of the triangles. Place the candy necklaces and bracelets on the frosted cake. Be sure to place a lot and don’t worry about it over flowing. Place some of the coins inside the cake. Place the other large section on top of the candy and frost. Frost the whole backside of cake carefully.
After frosting, take the fruit by the foot and cut it to fit on the top of the cake. Make two strips and place on the top as straps. Cut two smaller strips for the bottom of the cake to match the top straps. Place the m&ms going down the strips on top and bottom.
After everything is assembled, place the coins in and on the outside of the cake. It should look like a treasure chest overflowing with treasure.
