This Turtle Pull-Apart Birthday Cake was my 1st attempt at decorating a cake! I made it for my son’s 2nd birthday and he absolutely loved it. I got the idea from the Betty crocker online site.
The body is made of 7 cupcakes arranged closely in a circle and I used glaze icing to frost it together on top (it was way too sweet… you should use buttercream frosting. I didn’t know better as I had never decorated a cake before and didn’t know how to use the different types of icing!)
Then I frosted the feet and head separately with green tinted frosting and joined them to the body, then I piped some green to make the carapace pattern.
The recipe said to use licorice for the smile and tail, I had no idea what that was. I had some dried strawberry snacks so I cut out the smile for the turtle. Choc chips for the eyes and silver deco as toes. I used a piece of biscuit covered with the green icing for the tail.
You could also reverse the colours, a green bodied turtle with a brown head and feet.
Wish you have fun decorating your cakes!
