For my son’s 12th birthday, he requested a two-headed turtle cake! I always use photos for reference.
I used 2 boxed cake mixes and baked them one at a time in an 8 cup Pamphered Chef mixing bowl. One cake was used as the shell and the other was trimmed to make the contours of the shell. The cut out shapes were attached to the shell with canned icing.
The two heads, four legs, feet and the tail were shaped out of Rice Krispie Treats. You can make your own or use the pre-made Rice Krispie Treats!). Several skewers were used to keep the heads in place. The whole thing was covered in fondant that I bought in a package and I tinted “turtle” green and brown. A small amount of fondant was made brown and used for eyes.
The head and feet details were sculpted like clay. Details were painted using Wilson icing colors & a paint brush. My son and his friends loved the two-headed turtle cake and are putting in their requests!
I have been searching for turtle cake examples for my sons 4th birthday, and found this as the best by far!!! Rice Krispies are the secret to this. Your faces are almost life like..WOW
My friend getting married in Sept, really wants this cake as to be hubby nickname is turtle. So of anyone could make it just like this maybe some bride and groom detail added to head, we would be interested in hearing about, would require shipment to Steubenville, Ohio. Please contact asap of u can help at my email which is janiewainscott@yahoo.com. Of not I could make do with a very detailed, as in step by step, recipe. Thanks again
