I started with a boxed mix (either Duncan Hines or Betty Crocker), and made the cakes and frosted them. I then colored a large piece of fondant (you can get both fondant and food coloring gel at Michael’s or ACMoore), and covered the whole cake.
To get the images of the Tyrone birthday cake, I found a picture of Tyrone that I liked, printed it out on my computer (resizing as necessary), cut it out, and glued it to a piece of cardboard to use as a template to cut out the fondant pieces. Each different color on the cake was made by cutting out an individual piece of colored fondant.
For the lettering, it’s amazing that “happy birthday” has almost the same letters as “The Backyardigans”. I cut out each letter and make a template, then attached the letters to the cake.
A really great tip for any cake is to make it, then freeze it for at least 2 days or so. This gives the cake a smaller “crumb”, making it easier to cut and frost, and I swear it also makes the cake a bit more moist.
please help me. i really want to make this cake for 3 yr old godchild.
thank you
