This University of Louisville Cardinals Basketball Cake was made for my uncle…a die hard U of L fan!
The backboard was a 13×9 cake and the ball was the Wilton’s sports ball cake! They were both crumb coated to prevent crumbs!
The backboard was final iced with a white homemade butter cream. The cardinal icon was printed and reversed from the internet, piped with piping gel & place on the cake. Then filled with red, black, yellow and white with tip #5. A shell border with tip #21 with red stars placed with tip #14.
The writing was with tip #3. I cut the place for the ball using 1/2 the sports ball pan, and cut through the cake to make a perfect fit!
The ball was fit perfectly inside the cut and them final iced with tip #2010 & #16. The ball lines were tip #3. The rim was a fondant rope, that was made a day before to allow time to dry! The rim net was piped with basket weave tip #47!
The name on then front of the backboard was with tip #12!
He loved the cake almost as much as he loves the cards!
