I made this Valentine’s Day cake for my husband for Valentine’s Day. It is a cake shaped like an open box of Valentine’s candy. All of the ingredients were store bought. The cake mix and icing were sugar free (or no sugar added) as my husband is a diabetic. The fondant and rice krispy treats were not sugar free.
I used two heart shaped pans for the base of the cake. Once the cakes were cooled I cut a smaller heart shape out of the top layer so that I could put the candy in once it was decorated. I used the same heart shaped pan to make the rice krispy treat shape for the “top” of the box. I dirty iced both the “box” & “top” of the cake with the sugar free icing and then covered with blue fondant (his favorite color).
I used the sugar free icing to pipe the edge around the bottom and top to cover the uneven edges of fondant and to write “Love”, then I filled the hole in the cake with sugar free candy. My husband loved it!
