This Veggie Tales Cake is a birthday cake I made for a little boy who was turning 3yrs old. His favorite characters on Veggie Tales were Larry and Bob. Both Larry and Bob (as well as the presents) were made out of rice crispie treats then covered and decorated with fondant.
The party hat was an ice cream cone covered and decorated in fondant as well. The cake is a two layer chocolate cake made from an 11×15 inch Wilton cake pan. I first filled and covered the cake with buttercream icing, then covered it with a thin layer of fondant, colored with Wilton’s lemon yellow icing coloring.
The borders on the cake were piped using tips 22 and 32 with lemon yellow colored buttercream icing. All the figures on the cake were secured with wooden skewers. This cake was time consuming (took approx 3days), but fun to make!
Did you use homemade or store bought rice crispy treats?
I used store bought because they seem to stick together better and hold a better structure.
I would love to know how you were able to make the cucumber and tomato shape for Bob and Larry with the store bought rice krispie treats! I love your cake and I am going to make a version of it but I think for now I am going to start trying with Bob and Larry trials.
