My daughter is a HUGE Veggies Tales fan, so making her a Veggie Tales themed cake was a no brainer. This was an interesting adventure since I had never made a cake like this before. I had never even tasted fondant, let alone made a cake using it.
I had no idea what I was doing, but I was determined to give her the best cake I could. Veggie Tales live was also going to be in town, so we had a shirt made for her as well to match her cake and got VIP tickets to the show!
I started with dark chocolate cake from scratch, then filled with vanilla bean butter cream and sculpted the characters completely out of fondant. I used a little confectioner sugar and water to make a paste to hold it all together as well as toothpicks for extra support.
When she woke up on her birthday her awesome cake was waiting for her with her surprise VIP tickets and her birthday shirt to wear to the show that was happening on her birthday! We had a very happy and excited 4 yr old.
