My sister has horses and lives in her Hunter wellington boots so when we were trying to decide what cake to do for her 39th birthday my mum suggested a Wellington Boot Birthday Cake Idea!
I made the sponge in a large roasting tin as it’s the longest tin I have. When it was baked and cooled I left it in the freezer over night. I googled for a picture of a boot then printed it, cut it out and scanned it to enlarge it to A4 size. I placed my template on the cooled cake and carved out the boot shape. I sliced the boot in half and filled with jam and buttercream then put the two halves back together and covered the whole cake in buttercream.
Then I rolled out some green icing which I covered the boot cake with. I trimmed the edges and neatened it up. I added the extras that Hunter wellies have such as round the toe and heel, and the crease at the top of the boot was done with black sugarpaste. The hunter label at the front was done using white paste, a black edible pen and red icing to pipe the edge.
This cake was fun to done and my sister loved it!
I’ve been trying to find a Hunter style boot cake picture, so I could get an idea of how to make one for my son’s 2nd birthday. He lives in his red Hunters – he even tries to sleep in them, so I think we are going to have a boot-themed cake for his birthday. This pic and description were exactly what I was looking for. Thank you! I’ll just be adding some Oreo dirt with sand shovels and some little trucks like the ones he likes to push through the dirt in our backyard.
