I used Kathy Z. from Frisco, TX. cake to get an idea of how I wanted to make this Homemade Wonder Pets Birthday Cake for my niece who was turning 2. (Thanks Kathy!) Kathy’s cake used 2 round cakes, but I would have had to purchase another pan, so I used the pans I had and modified her idea a bit.
I used a 12 X 18 sheet pan on the bottom and a 9″ round pan for the top. I offset the top layer to the back of the bottom layer so I would have room to put the Wonder Pets figures on the cake. I used boxed funfetti cake mix from the store. I used buttercream icing tinted with Wilton sky blue icing color and because I wasn’t able to make the icing very smooth on the cake I piped stars all over the top and sides.
I used Wilton’s lemon yellow and royal blue icing color to tint more buttercream for the borders. I used Wilton’s packaged fondant for the Wonder Pets Logo and the letters. I used a plastic lid and various things from my kitchen to cut out the round Wonder Pets logo. I used leftover fondant to cut out balloons and streamers to decorate behind Lenny & Tuck so the cake wouldn’t look so plain. I didn’t have room to write my niece’s name on top of the cake, so I piped “Happy 2nd Alyvia” on the front edge of the bottom layer.
The cake turned out great and my niece LOVED it!
I think you did a great job!
I think I am going to use the same idea. Where did you get the wonder pets figurines?
You can usually find the figurines in the toy aisles at just about any Walmart, Target, or sometimes Kmart. They cost about $10 for the set.
