My 1 and 2 year old LOVE the Yo Gabba Gabba show. So, for my 1 year old’s birthday party, I wanted to make her a Foofa cake. I got the courage to make my own when I came across this site, and it was a hit!
The cake itself was a box strawberry cake, and the frosting was “special buttercream frosting”, a recipe from allrecipes.com. I read so many reviews from others on this site before coming to a final decision, and boy was I glad!
The cake was baked in a small round 8″ pan. I then sculpted the shape, frosted it with the frosting and rolled out the “marshmallow” fondant in white, red, and yellow. This fondant recipe also came from all.recipes.com. I cut most of it freehand but also used lids from water bottles or from whatever I could find. Tip: if you moisten your finger with water before applying the fondant, it gives the fondant that glossy look.
I piped the black on her eyes and lashes and Foofa was finished.
I would like to add that I am by no means a baker and usually buy the cake mix, add store-bought frosting and that’s the end of it. However, when I saw that so many people were making their cakes from scratch, I thought I would give it a try. My husband and I now agree we will never again spend $50-$70 dollars on a bakery cake. My cake looked exactly as I had wanted it to and tasted far better!
Did you bake another 8inch cake to cut the top part of the head? Also how many batches of fondant did you make?
