Cranky the Crane Cake

For this Cranky the Crane cake (from Thomas the Train…), you’ll need:

*Three cake mixes (I used chocolate)

*One square cake tin (20cm x 20cm) and two loaf tins (22cm x 11cm)

*3 x white ready made – ready to roll icing

*Black food colouring (find at cake or wedding shops

*1 small magnet

*Thomas the tank engine figures and track

I made face a couple of days ahead to dry. I placed four toothpicks at the back of the face so when dry you can push into cake.

I had a picture of Cranky the Crane to model my face on – it was a lot of fun sculpting. I dipped a toothpick into black food colouring and added a little at a time to get the right grey colour.

The square cake I angled the sides and covered with grey icing (colour like face).

The first loaf sized cake I cut in half and placed on top of each other and coverd in grey icing.

Second cake cut out a section on top to leave room for crane arm part. Coverd in grey icing. Made arm out of icing.

To hold top of Cranky and body of cake I used long skewers.

I Coloured more icing a darker grey for trims and lines. I just used a paint brush with the food colouring.
