Dodge’s train cake for 3rd B-Day!

Thanks to all the great ideas I saw on this site, I was able to make my nephew Dodge this train cake for his 3rd B-day. I free hand cut the engine, putting pieces together until it looked the way I wanted it. I cut the top in a round shape. The cars and cabose are made from loaf pans. I used fondant frosting. I did a crumb frosting first, then covered with fondant. I used Twix for the logs. I cut up licorice for the cabose “railing”. These were held on with tiny tootsie rolls I used for the “posts”. I poked the tootsie rolls with a toothpick and then pushed in the licorice. The wheels are made from mini and regular oreos. I used large marshmallow covered in frosting and colored sugar for the smoke stake and tiny marshmallows for the “smoke”.

I had to drive 3 hours through some very curvy roads to deliver the cake, which was a challenge. My mom always made my sister and me a homemade “theme” cake for our birthdays, so I knew Dodge just had to have one!
